Chloe Malle Takes the Reins at Vogue US

For nearly four decades, Vogue in the United States was shaped by one woman: Anna Wintour. With her sharp bob and ever-present sunglasses, she became the face of the magazine and a defining figure in fashion. Now, after 37 years, Wintour has stepped back from her day-to-day role, handing the editorial reins to Chloe Malle.

On September 2, Wintour announced that Malle would become Head of Editorial Content at Vogue US, a newly created position. The choice reflects both continuity and change. Malle, the daughter of actress Candice Bergen and late filmmaker Louis Malle, first joined Vogue in 2011 as social editor. She later became a contributing editor and, most recently, ran Vogue.com. Under her watch, the site’s readership expanded dramatically, proving she could translate the magazine’s authority into digital influence.

Her appointment comes at a time when the lines between print and digital are disappearing. Fashion audiences are just as likely to discover a cover story on their phone screens as in the pages of a glossy magazine. Malle, who has already shown her ability to grow Vogue’s online reach, is expected to push that momentum further.
