Teni Biography: All You Need To Know About The Singer.

Teniola Apata, professionally known as Teni or Teni the entertainer is a multitalented, free spirited and popular songwriter, singer and performer. She has been a popular musician on the lips of Nigerians since the 2019’s because of her unique voice and relatable lyrics.

 

Early Life.

Teniola Apata was born on 23rd of December, 1993 and hails from Ekiti state. She was born in Lagos state to Mr. and Mrs. Apata. Her father was a retired brigadier general of the Nigerian army before he was assassinated in 1995.  Teni was barely two years old at the time. She is the ninth out of ten children and younger sister to the Nigerian singer, Niniola.

She had her primary and subsequently, secondary education at Apata Memorial High school. This school was owned by her late father in Lagos and was managed by his other wives after his death.

Teni began her university education at the University of Georgia but finished at the American Intercontinental University where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

 

Career.

Teni’s music career began in 2017. She released her debut single Amen under the Shizzi Magic Fingers Record Label. She left the Shizzi Magic Fingers Record Label in 2017, and signed with Dr Dolor entertainment. Teni released Fargin, a single in 2017 under Dr Dolor entertainment. She had her breakthrough in the music industry when she released her hit singles Askamaya, case and Uyo meyo. Her song “Uyo Meyo was ranked 15th on MTV Base’s end of the years’s list of the Top 20 Hottest Naija Tracks of 2018. Teni was featured on YouTube music’s trending artist on the rise on 20 February 2019.

She released her debut E.P, Billionaire on 11 October 2019. The E.P was compiled of six tracks with no guest artist on board. Jysynths Beatz and Pheelz produced this E.P.

In 2020, she collaborated with DJ Neptune to release and E.P called the Quarantine Playlist. The four-track E.P had her played out at different stages of being in quarantine and the strains of being in lockdown due to the coronavirus.

On January 17 2025, she released her new single money, which is her biggest single debut until date. The single has reached Top 10 Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and Tiktok Nigeria. It is also on the top 50 global Shazam, no 1 Shazam Nigeria. Her new project Global Citizen  is due to be out in 2025.

 

Endorsements.

Teni was endorsed by Wema to be a brand ambassador for its alat_ng scheme on 12 July 2019.

She also signed an endorsement deal with TomTom on the 26th of March, 2019. She has also signed ambassadorial deals with pepsi Naija and Techno, all in 2019.

Awards and Recognitions.

In 2018, Teni won the Rookie of the year at the Headies Awards, Most Promising Act to Watch at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards. She also won the Best New Artist award at the Soundcity MVP Awards Festival in the same year.

In 2019, her songs, Uyo Meyo and Case won the best recording of the year, best R&B single and Best pop single and Song of the year, respectively at the headies awards.

In 2020, Teni won the best female MVP at soundcity MVP Awards Festival and Most searched Musician (Female) at the Net Honors in 2021.

In 2022, she was conferred a national award- Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) by the former president of Nigeria- Muhammadu Buhari.
