What you should know about Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD)

Richard Mofe Damijo popularly known as RMD is a Nigerian actor, script writer, Lawyer and up till 2015 served as the Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State. He was born on the 6th of July 1961 in Aladja, Delta State, Nigeria.

Early Life and Education:

RMD has five siblings, and he was brought up by his mother who was a dedicated Christian after his father died when he was young. He also went to Midwest College Warri; subsequently had his Theatre Arts at the University of Benin where he graduated in 1983. He also went back to study law in the University of Lagos, Nigeria and graduated in 2004.

Career:

RMD started his acting from the year 1989, where he was featured in some of the Nigeria television series and movies. In 1993 he gained fame by acting in “Out of Bounds” besides it, he acted in “Scores to Settle” in 1998. He also starred in the movie “The Black Book” released in 2023 in where he played the lead role of a wealthy and influential businessman with a dark past. His performance in the movie earned him critical acclaim and further solidified his position as one of Nigeria’s top actors.

 

Awards and Recognition:

RMD has received numerous awards for his contributions to the Nigerian film industry, including:

– The Best Actor in a Leading Role winner of the 2005 Africa Movie Academy Awards.

– Life Time Achievement Award at the 2012 AMAA.

– AMVCA 2015 Winner in the CATEGORY BEST ACTOR IN A DRAMA.

-He won the Exclusive Men of the year Africa Awards in 2022.

-In 2024, he was honoured with the Industry Merit Awards, alongside Iya Rainbow at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

 

Politics and Public Service:

In 2008, RMD was appointed special adviser of Culture and Tourism in Delta State to the then Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan. He served as the commissioner for culture and tourism in 2009. He served in this position until 2015.

 

Personal Life:

RMD has been involved in marriage with Jumobi Adegbesan, an ex-model and actress, and the couple has two children to their marital bond. He is a God fearing man and the greatest philanthropist of the 20th century mainly involved in the funding of education. He was previously married to a publisher and talk show host May Elle ‘MEE’ Ezekiel until her demise in 1996. In total he has five children; Two with his current wife and three from his previous marriage with May.

Richard Mofe Damijo is a top-rated, talented, and accomplished actor, writer, and supporter of public policies. He is widely involved in the Nigerian motion picture industry and supports public service, thereby having a useful impact in the society. More importantly by his canonical roles like his portrayal in “Black Book,” he continues to influence and provide pleasure through his productions.
