Is Ayra Starr Bringing Back the Peplum and Skirt Look

Published

Ayra Starr - Instagram

Ayra Starr, nominated for Best African Performance, wore a two-piece outfit for Lucian Grainge’s annual Grammy luncheon on Feb 1, 2026. She was photographed in a strapless peplum top paired with a mini skirt. The top is fitted at the bust with a sweetheart neckline in a blue and tan houndstooth pattern that flared slightly at the waist. She paired it with a high-waist short skirt in a contrasting pink and tan houndstooth print. Thin-strapped black heels, minimal jewelry and simple makeup were worn alongside the outfit.

Mini skirt has always been a big part of Ayra’s personal style and her go-to for public appearances, and this look fit into that pattern. Over the years, she has adopted short hemlines and fitted styles, sometimes mixing them with bold prints or structured pieces. This fit follows that direction.

The peplum was very popular and largely worn in the early 2010s and gradually faded in mainstream fashion through the years. It has slowly started appearing again across celebrity wardrobes, often in simpler form than before. These newer takes tend to focus more on cleaner cuts and more restrained shapes, which makes them simpler to combine with modern pieces like short skirts and trousers.

The look fits her established style, and the mix of contrasting houndstooth prints is an example of how print combinations remain popular among young people. By combining a peplum top with a mimi skirt, Ayra Starr put herself within a wider movement of revisiting the early-2000s fashion choices through updated cuts. The look fits into current fashion conversations, adding to the growing visibility of peplum pieces in contemporary wardrobes.
