The Royal Oath: A Fashion Show Reviving Benin’s Regal Heritage in Abuja

On February 23rd in Abuja the audience at the Royal Oath witnessed a captivating fashion show that featured history, culture and style. Organized by Africana Couture under the leadership of Charles Oronsaye, the event was more than a fashion show; it was a revival of the 18th-century wedding from the Benin kingdom.

Benin cultural attire
A Journey Back To Time
The Royal Oath fashion show took her audience back in time to the era of Oba Ewuare, a greatly respected king of the Benin king bringing to our attention his marriage to two sisters. The event brought to life history through elaborate costumes, traditional dances, and performances that pay homage to the rich cultural heritage of Nigeria. Royal Oath didn’t stop at Benin; it also showcased influences from other African cultures, including the Urhobo, Arewa, Yoruba, Igbo, Senegalese, Malian, and Ivorian kingdoms.

Africana Couture is known for its commitment in preserving and promoting African heritage through fashion. It tells real African stories instead of embracing foreign influences, the brand emphasizes the importance of cultural identity “We are sticking to culture; we are not borrowing stories,” says Oronsaye.

Africana Couture has launched the Africana 17 Charitable Foundation, with the goal of supporting Nigeria’s healthcare sector. The foundation’s first project is focused on raising funds for dialysis machines for the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, establishing the brand’s dedication to social responsibility.

Temi Otedola Came Prepared in Burnt Orange and Black

You know that feeling when you see an outfit and can’t help but stare? That’s the effect Temi Otedola’s latest post had.
She wore a burnt orange jacket that immediately caught attention, reminding us why she’s one of Nigeria’s most stylish stars.

Temi Otedola
The structured shoulders, elaborate collar, and wide sleeves added edge to the fit, while the tan belt pulled everything together, giving it the perfect shape. She paired the look with a black leather skirt with a slit at the front.
Temi didn’t overcomplicate things with the accessories. She complemented the outfit with dark sunglasses, gold earrings, and wine-toned heels that matched well. Her hair was pulled back.
What really makes this outfit special is how Temi combined everything. Most people would struggle with these colours, but Temi made it look natural.
And that caption she used, “Na me dey to tori dia body,” was the cherry on top. It might sound playful, but it was just Temi being unapologetically herself and knowing fully well what she brings to the table in the fashion industry.
Dressing corporate doesn’t have to look boring. Temi Otedola shows us that you can add a bit of colour and still maintain class, and that’s why her fashion sense keeps earning praise.

Nimi Nwofor’s Black and White Moment

Nimi Nwofor, an Abuja-based mother of fantastic five, has always been making waves on Instagram. She has worked with brands to create signature outfits. Fashion is one way that she expresses herself. She has also used her latest picture to explain that her own kind of beauty is her superpower.

Nimi Nwofor
She’s wearing an oversized white button-down shirt and it’s got floral appliques on it that started near her chest. It wasn’t the office shirt that we usually get to see in the morning and it was completely new because of all the flower detail.
She added a black belt to her waist to give it some shape because this oversized look can loose it’s fitting if not balanced right.
She teamed it with black leggings and high knee-patent boots. The boot was very shiny. The footwear choice she made fits more than sneakers or flats.
Regarding accessories, Nimi was not carrying much – just a mini black Chanel bag, a pair of sunglasses that had white stripes at the side, and a gold wristwatch on her wrist.

Nimi Nwofor
Her long hair is very straight in appearance to others. The only thing with a real catch for my eye was the classic bold red lipstick, reminding me about how black and white don’t have to look boring. Colour sometimes can pull a look together.
What’s great about it all is that it’s something you can wear whether you’re going to breakfast, lunch, a meeting, or simply shopping. Its adaptability is what caused it to resonate with us.
For Nimi, fashion appears to be about discovering what suits her and adhering to it. As a mother managing her life in Abuja and establishing herself in the fashion world, this outfit demonstrates her ability to look great for herself without needing approval from others.
And that’s likely what she intended when she expressed that she embodies her own type of beauty.

Alex Unusual’s Green Dress from the Weekend Is Still on Our Mind

These days, the weekend moves faster and Monday comes knocking at our door. Most of us deal with this by complaining or sleeping off. However, Alex Unusual chose to deal with it by wearing a green dress that has not left our minds. She shared this picture earlier this week, and we cannot stop gushing about it.

Alex Unusual
The dress is simple, strapless, short, and detailed with a bold pattern across it. To add to the design, there’s a flower detail that rested on one side of her chest, like it belonged there. The outfit is fitted at the top and slightly flared at the end. She wore bright green heels that matched perfectly. Her hair was not left out on this one. The long loose waves framed her face beautifully, and she accessorized with simple jewellery.
Green is one of those colours that can go wrong if not done right. You can wear the wrong shade, and it might end up looking washed out. But this green worked because of the bold pattern on it.
Alex is over six feet tall, but she uses it to her advantage instead of trying to fight it. The short hem doesn’t look like it’s trying to be sexy, it just looked right on her. The heels, hair, the accessories; everything about the look made so much sense.
According to her caption, she mentioned how the weekend barely started before Monday was already calling. She also said the year feels like it’s on fast forward, and she showed up with grace regardless. With this green dress and those matching heels, she proved it. Sometimes showing up with grace is just about getting dressed well, even when everything else moves with speed.
