Fashion changes quickly, but occasionally, a simple combination emerges that defines the season. Lydia stepped out in wide-leg pants and waistcoat for the movie premiere of “Love and New Notes” produced by Timinu Egbuson. Pairing is notable and noteworthy. It represents a modern approach to dressing.

For a long time, power dressing meant structured suits, fitted blazers, and pencil skirts. The idea was to look serious enough to command respect. But style has evolved, as people while being comfortable, and feel like themselves. That is where wide leg trousers and a waistcoat come in.

The combination balanced relaxed fit with a tailored shape, it worked because it felt relaxed but still intentional. The trousers had volume and movement. The waistcoat balanced it by giving shape to the upper body. Together, the look combined tailored structure with casual ease

Wide leg trousers have quietly returned over the past few years. It reappeared into street style, office wear, and  event outfits. Unlike skinny trousers, they allow space and flow. They also flatter different body types because they do not cling. But wide trousers alone can appear overly in certain settings. That is where the waistcoat changes the story.

A waistcoat brings structure without the heaviness of a full suit jacket. It defines the waist, gives the outfit direction, and shapes the figure. When worn buttoned up, it looks neat and composed.

Lydia understood that balance well. It works for meetings, dinners, or  creative spaces.

The same combination can shift depending on styling. With heels, it’s formal. With flats or loafers, it leans towards casual but still put together. Add a structured bag and simple jewelry and the outfit becomes suitable for the office.

What Lydia did was show how natural that combination can look when styled simply. The styling avoided excessive accessories. The focus remained on neat tailoring and balanced proportions.

“I love an outfit that is well made and an absolute showstopper.” Idia Aisien says in her recent Instagram post. She steps out in a handwoven two-piece by the Nigerian brand Eki Kere. It perfectly reflects the theme “When culture meets fashion” The kind that invites the viewer to appreciate the beauty of cultural craftsmanship to appreciate the beauty in culture and nature.

The look is simple at first glance. A light gold cropped top paired with a matching midi skirt. But the details show traditional artistry. It appears to be handwoven, with visible fringe texture that suggests craftsmanship rather than factory finishing.

The top is structured, cut just above the waist. It fits close without looking tight. The neckline is clean and modest, a soft square shape that opens up the collarbone area while remaining modest.

The skirt sits high on the waist and falls straight down with a slit that runs up to the thigh.

Hair and makeup are kept simple. Her hair was worn down in soft waves and pulled back neatly to highlight the neckline. Makeup was kept in neutral tones. Her jewelry was minimal.

Her shoe is a key highlight of her overall outfit. She wore a white slingback heel.

This is where culture is expressed in a practical way. Èkì Kéré is known for working with textiles that reference Nigerian heritage. Instead of turning cultural symbols into costumes, the brand translates them into pieces that can be worn in everyday settings.

Here, heritage is visible in the handwoven fabric, while the clean cut keeps the design modern. On Idia Aisien, the two-piece feels current and rooted in tradition.
