Ebuka Obi-Uchendu Does the Pinstripe Suit Differently

Published

Ebuka Obi-Uchendu attended the 12th anniversary of StyleVitae at Nomaada Lagos. The dress code for the event was “stylishly you,” and Ebuka understood the assignment and delivered accordingly, which is no surprise given how well he is known for his exquisite and creative approach to fashion.

Ebuka arrived in a deconstructed, oversized navy-blue pinstripe suit. The double-breasted jacket had sweeping, dominant peak lapels and a dropped shoulder line that enhanced his frame without looking stiff. The jacket was left open to reveal a low-cut white tank top, which he wore underneath. He paired it with matching trousers that defy the traditional suiting way by flowing into a wide-leg, simple-flare silhouette that dropped down to the floor.

He styled his look with a classic black wool beret worn over his forehead, and two large layered white fabric orchid corsages pinned boldly on his left peak lapel, this accessory acts as the highlight against the dark pinstripe fabric. He also wore clear-lens aviator glasses that added a hint of vintage charm to his face. Peeking out from the pooling hems of his flared trousers were sharp, dual-toned black-and-white pointed dress shoes. The bright white detail on the toes matched the suit’s stripes and floral lapel pins, pulling the whole look together from head to toe.

Pinstripe has always been a classic, but Ebuka made it feel like his own thing here. The beret, the floral corsage, the open jacket over a tank top, none of it was accidental. This was different compared to the teal suit and dark loafers he wore in late March, which had a much more relaxed feel to it.

There’s just something about Y2K fashion that keeps pulling us back in. It’s bold, it’s unapologetic, and it remains instantly recognizable. Dede Ashiogwu, entrepreneur, fashion influencer, and BBNaija season 10 runner-up, embodies that same vibe. She’s never been one to fade into the background, and her latest look really drove that point home.

In a recent Instagram post, she wore the I.AM.GIA × Fafifafinettes mini dress, featuring spaghetti straps, a mint-and-aqua colour palette with yellow colour-block accents, an anime-inspired graphic across the front, and a double-layered lace ruffle hem.

Photo: Instagram

She accessorized with a pearl and crystal choker, the Ariana Grande × Swarovski crystal tennis bracelet, and a silver hand chain. She carried a burnt orange Louis Vuitton Alma BB in epi leather. She wore open-toe stiletto heels adorned with colourful daisy embellishments from the Rene Caovilla Bloom Limited Edition sandals.

Photo: Instagram

She wore a pixie cut wig, while her makeup complemented the outfit with defined eyes, a warm blush, and a classic 90s-inspired ombré lip, blending a deep brown liner into a glossy nude. She captioned the post: “real life, not just a moodboard.”

Photo: Instagram

In an earlier Instagram post for the Big Brother Naija Season 10 reunion, she wore an oversized acid-wash denim trench coat over a matching lace bralette and a floor-sweeping high-waist skirt. Her latest appearance takes a different direction with a lighter Y2K-inspired outfit.

At the reunion, Dede wore an oversized long denim trench coat with dropped shoulders, wide lapels, and extra-long billowy sleeves with buttoned cuffs. Underneath, she paired it with matching acid-wash denim bralette with a plunging V-neckline and structural seaming. Her bottoms were high-waisted, wide-leg denim trousers which had a floor-grazing length that blended into the coat’s hem.

Her only accessory was the same shade denim choker necklace and her hair was worn in a black bone-straight textured bob wig with a clean center part. Her glam consisted of soft deep brown smoky eyeshadow paired with a sharp, black winged eyeliner, well shaped eyebrows, and ombré lip with a dark brown lip liner blended into a glossy, nude-pink center. Her shoes were fully concealed beneath the floor-sweeping, wide-leg trousers.

If you scroll back to her early March Euphoria Lounge post captioned “Golden hour looks good when I’m in it,” Dede had on a soft yellow one-shoulder gown with a flowing sleeve, styled simple and light with strappy crystal heels and a white Louis Vuitton bag. That outfit was easy and calm. This one goes the other way, swapping the soft yellow for bold acid-wash denim and trading a simple dress for a heavier, more layered look.

Venita chose full cultural immersion in Bali wearing a traditional Balinese outfit. She wore a strapless, one-shoulder wrap bodice in purple and pink, sitting above a bright purple wrapped skirt covered in intricate gold-threaded floral patterns. A Louis Vuitton scarf tied under her chin like the 1960s Riviera fashion, cat-eye sunglasses, gold bangles, a white quilted leather Chanel handbag with a top handle, and white pointed-toe slingback heels with fishnet paneling at the front rounded the whole thing out.

Dabota Lawson – Positano, Italy

Dabota Lawson visited Positano for her birthday. She wore a pristine white bodycon dress with a ruched torso, soft hip folds and an asymmetric draped off-the-shoulder neckline. For accessories, Lawson went with a vintage-style headscarf tied under the chin which had a bold black-and-white border design, paired with white-rimmed square sunglasses with dark lenses. She carried an elongated leather clutch in a vibrant pastel yellow. For jewellery, she wore a silver bracelet and a wristwatch on her right wrist.
