When Culture Meets Fashion: Idia Aisien in a Two-Piece by Nigerian Brand Èkì Kéré
“I love an outfit that is well made and an absolute showstopper.” Idia Aisien says in her recent Instagram post. She steps out in a handwoven two-piece by the Nigerian brand Eki Kere. It perfectly reflects the theme “When culture meets fashion” The kind that invites the viewer to appreciate the beauty of cultural craftsmanship to appreciate the beauty in culture and nature.

The look is simple at first glance. A light gold cropped top paired with a matching midi skirt. But the details show traditional artistry. It appears to be handwoven, with visible fringe texture that suggests craftsmanship rather than factory finishing.
The top is structured, cut just above the waist. It fits close without looking tight. The neckline is clean and modest, a soft square shape that opens up the collarbone area while remaining modest.
The skirt sits high on the waist and falls straight down with a slit that runs up to the thigh.
Hair and makeup are kept simple. Her hair was worn down in soft waves and pulled back neatly to highlight the neckline. Makeup was kept in neutral tones. Her jewelry was minimal.

Her shoe is a key highlight of her overall outfit. She wore a white slingback heel.
This is where culture is expressed in a practical way. Èkì Kéré is known for working with textiles that reference Nigerian heritage. Instead of turning cultural symbols into costumes, the brand translates them into pieces that can be worn in everyday settings.
Here, heritage is visible in the handwoven fabric, while the clean cut keeps the design modern. On Idia Aisien, the two-piece feels current and rooted in tradition.
