5 Times Tolu Bally Sets Trend with Coolness

Published

on

Nigerian fashion icon Tolu Bally, the creative genius behind 2207 by TBally, isn’t just a designer, she’s a trendsetter who effortlessly blends boldness with sophistication. From playful twists on classics to viral fashion moments, here are five times she left us all taking notes (and screenshots) this year.

1. The Metallic Tolu Bally Royalty Moment

Tolu Bally’s take on modern royalty was nothing short of breathtaking. She layered a dazzling electric-blue metallic drape over a crisp white shirt, merging traditional glam with corporate chic. What made this ensemble trendsetting wasn’t just the regal fabric or dramatic brooch detailing, it was the bold blend of structure and shine. It’s not every day you see a look that says “CEO and Queen” all in one frame. Her sleek ponytail, minimal accessories, and pointed heels sealed the look in true Tolu Bally fashion.

2. Ankara, but Make It Haute

Just when we thought we’d seen it all with Ankara, Tolu brought her signature spice. In this vibrant green-orange ensemble with dramatic sleeves and a perfectly cinched waist, she reinvented the asoebi silhouette for the modern-day African belle. The fabric? Loud. The design? Louder. Paired with a matching head wrap and an elegant bag, she gave us a high-fashion moment that celebrates culture while redefining how we wear our roots.

3. The Earth-Toned Tolu Bally  Eleganza

Every now and then, a look comes along that makes you fall in love with fashion all over again. This brown ruched gown with cascading tulle ruffles did exactly that. It’s a mix of classic couture and editorial drama,  from the high neckline and sheer sleeves to the textured layers that hugged her figure like art. With her soft makeup and swept-back fringe, Tolu turned brown, an often overlooked color into the new luxe. After this look, earthy tones have never looked more desirable.

4. The Golden Goddess in Silk

Silk on melanin is a match made in fashion heaven, and Tolu proved that with this gold satin wrap dress that screamed confidence and sensuality. With a daring thigh-high slit, a subtle front knot, and a deep neckline, she gave us a masterclass in grown-woman glam. This outfit wasn’t just about shimmer, it was about power and poise. Whether for a cocktail event or fashion editorial, this is how you command a room.

5. The chocolate-brown outfit

Now this is super stylish!  It’s a matching top and pants set, kind of like a jumpsuit but with separate pieces.  The top is a snug, long-sleeved shirt with a slightly low neckline.  The pants are skinny and go all the way down to the ankles. The fabric looks smooth and shiny. Her makeup added pretty natural to this look, focusing on enhancing her features. Tolu is wearing simple and elegant all in one piece.

There have always been celebrity co-signs and viral moments with Tolu Bally. From Tiwa Savage to Ini Edo, A-list stars have embraced Tolu’s designs, turning her pieces into instant sell-outs. Her looks dominate Pinterest boards and inspire “Get the Look” YouTube tutorials. Even international brands like Gap (as seen with Tyla’s campaign ) echo her philosophy of comfort-meets-confidence, proof that Tolu’s influence is borderless.

When Nigerian celebs stan a designer, the streets always follow.

Tolu isn’t just designing clothes, she’s curating a mindset. Her trends resonate because they’re authentic, wearable, and unapologetically fun and cool. For Nigerians, she’s proof that fashion is self-expression, not just labels.

Agbada is not new to Nigerian fashion, but every so often, someone comes along and makes people look at it differently. Kola Omotoso is doing exactly that. Since leaving the Big Brother Naija Season 10 house, the reality TV star has turned nearly every traditional outing into another opportunity to experiment with agbada, and Nigerians online have taken notice.

Black Dandyism Is Back: Why Bimbo Ademoye’s Oversized Suit Is Peak Fashion Inspiration

Published

on

Bimbo Ademoye just gave every stylist in Lagos something to work with. In her latest Instagram post, the Nollywood actress traded her usual tight, body-con looks for a suit that swallowed her whole. She captioned it: “Stay small enough long enough, because soon enough, you’d be big enough to.”

She wore a matching two-piece set in a neutral mocha-tan color. The oversized blazer had broad, structured shoulders and buttoned low at the waist. She paired it with wide-legged trousers, cut high at the waist, that fell all the way to the floor.

Photo: Whilzpro

Her hair from Hair by Tosin was a long, bone-straight wig tucked neatly behind her ears. Her makeup by Glam by Morgan combined earthy tones with a deep berry-red lip. Her accessories stayed minimal: a scarlet New York Yankees cap, a red Dolce & Gabbana handbag in a trapezoidal shape, gold hoops, a bracelet, a few rings, and black leather loafers.

The look also connects with the wider history of Black dandyism, where clothes have often been a way to express identity and self-expression. It goes beyond oversized suits and menswear-inspired pieces, with a history tied to culture, status and the ways Black people use fashion to present themselves.

Bimbo’s outfit picks up on some of those ideas through its strong tailoring and oversized proportions, without necessarily making it a Black dandyism look. The wide blazer and trousers take familiar menswear shapes and give them a different feel, while her cap, red handbag and other styling choices make the outfit feel personal to her.

Corsets have been her signature for years, waist cinched and shape on full display in almost every red carpet look. This time, she let all of it disappear into layers of oversized fabric.
