The Royal Oath: A Fashion Show Reviving Benin’s Regal Heritage in Abuja
On February 23rd in Abuja the audience at the Royal Oath witnessed a captivating fashion show that featured history, culture and style. Organized by Africana Couture under the leadership of Charles Oronsaye, the event was more than a fashion show; it was a revival of the 18th-century wedding from the Benin kingdom.

A Journey Back To Time
The Royal Oath fashion show took her audience back in time to the era of Oba Ewuare, a greatly respected king of the Benin king bringing to our attention his marriage to two sisters. The event brought to life history through elaborate costumes, traditional dances, and performances that pay homage to the rich cultural heritage of Nigeria. Royal Oath didn’t stop at Benin; it also showcased influences from other African cultures, including the Urhobo, Arewa, Yoruba, Igbo, Senegalese, Malian, and Ivorian kingdoms.

Fashion Meets Culture
Africana Couture is known for its commitment in preserving and promoting African heritage through fashion. It tells real African stories instead of embracing foreign influences, the brand emphasizes the importance of cultural identity “We are sticking to culture; we are not borrowing stories,” says Oronsaye.
The fashion show doesn’t focus on beauty alone; it’s a deep experience that educates and inspires. Those who attended saw intricate designs that reflected the magnificence of African royalty, complemented by performances that reenact these stories on stage.

Aside from the fun of the show, Royal Oath served as a platform where emerging talents in the fashion industry are trained. Also Africana Couture plans to set up aspiring designers, offering them training and opportunities to display their work on a global stage. This idea would stem continuous growth and innovation within Nigeria’s fashion space.

The Royal Oath
Economic and Social Impact
Also the event added a positive impact on the Nigerian economy. It brought an avenue for job opportunities for photographers, stylists, costumiers, and other artists. Africana Couture has launched the Africana 17 Charitable Foundation, with the goal of supporting Nigeria’s healthcare sector. The foundation’s first project is focused on raising funds for dialysis machines for the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, establishing the brand’s dedication to social responsibility.

Culture and Fashion
A Cultural Movement
The Royal Oath was not just a fashion show; it was a cultural movement that aimed at preserving and celebrating Nigeria’s rich roots. By bringing back traditional elements through contemporary fashion, the event promoted a greater sense of unity and national pride. Oronsaye says, “By preserving and promoting our heritage, we can inspire future generations and strengthen our national identity.”

Wizkid and Pharrell Raise the Bar for Male Fashion—and Possibly New Music
Is Wizkid hinting at new music? That’s the question his latest Instagram post has sparked. The images, captured alongside American musician, producer, and fashion designer Pharrell Williams, appeared without a caption, leaving fans to speculate. While it’s not confirmed whether new music is coming, the photos themselves highlight how both artists approach visual style.
Wizkid wears an all-black leather outfit, with a fitted biker jacket and tailored trousers that make an impression with their tailored fit. Pharrell Williams takes a different approach, pairing a satin bomber with wide-leg trousers that move freely, showing how fabric and cut shape his look. The black-and-white photos capture the textures, contrasts, and details of both outfits, making the differences between the two styles clear at a glance.

Wizkid’s all-black leather outfit maintains its sharp tailoring. A fitted biker-style jacket with a structured collar is paired with lace-up trousers and pointed boots. A chain necklace and tinted sunglasses add subtle details. The leather continues to define the outfit’s shape and clean lines, showing how careful cuts and material choices elevate the overall look.
Pharrell offers a contrasting approach. A satin bomber with graphic detail is paired with wide-leg trousers and solid sneakers, creating a relaxed shape that emphasizes movement and proportion. The satin introduces sheen, while the trousers provide balance through volume. Minimal accessories allow the focus to remain on the combination of cut, fabric, and shape.

Side by side, the photos show contrast between fitted leather and relaxed satin, structured lines and looser proportions, as well as different textures and volumes. Both looks demonstrate how fabric, fit, and design can define a look without relying on logos or branding.
Whether this collaboration signals new music or is solely a style moment, the images highlight contemporary approaches to menswear. They emphasize how tailored details, fabric choices, and proportions can make each outfit visually distinct, showcasing the thoughtful approach both Wizkid and Pharrell take toward their public image.

Oyindamola Nails an All-Denim Look With Edge
On February 17, 2026, Oyindamola shared photos on her Instagram with the caption: “It’s always a pleasure to remind you.” She was designed and styled by Josiphiah Michael, known for his demin designs.

She wore a structured denim corset bodice in a light-wash blue. The corset is fitted and tight at the waist. It has visible denim designs: seams, panels and a repurposed denim waistband wrapped around her hips with a leather logo patch on it adding texture to the bodice. On top of the corset she wore a heavily distressed light-wash blue cropped denim jacket. The jacket is oversized with chest pockets, a wide collar and worn patches across the shoulders and front panels. It’s long-sleeved and it was rolled up a bit.

For the bottom, Damola wore a long mid-wash blue denim skirt with a thigh-high slit at the left side and a raw, unfinished hem that pools slightly at her feet adding a rough edge to the full outfit. She paired the look with a structured tote bag that matches her dress. She completed the look with a pair of denim pointed-toe heels that match the outfit.

Oyindamola accessorized her look with silver statement bangles on both wrists, a silver ring and a simple chain necklace. Her makeup was done by Ewatosin Makeovers and it was a soft-glam look with well-defined brows, neutral smokey eyes and glossy nude lips outlined with a darker line. Official flarehair styled her hair in a dark brown bob with flipped-out ends and a deep-side part that sweeps across her face.

Jackie Aina Wears Plunging Crystal Pink Suit to YSL Beauty Celebration
When Jackie Aina stepped out for the recent celebration hosted by Yves Saint Laurent Beauty, she arrived in a plunging crystal-embellished pink suit. She’s known for her sharp eye for beauty and branding.
The suit aligned with the brand’s identity and her perceived personality. Cut in a rich pink fabric, the color choice contrasted with her skin tone and the event’s evening setting. The blazer was tailored close to the body, with a deep plunging neckline exposing her midriff that replaced the need for an inner blouse or camisole. This design choice highlighted the craftsmanship of the suit and the crystal detailing that traced parts of the lapel and bodice.

Rather than scatter embellishments across the entire outfit, the crystals were placed strategically. The detailing of the jacket highlighted its shape and added texture without conflicting with the base fabric. Under event lighting, the stones created a soft shimmer that registered clearly in photos but still maintained its design.
The trousers followed the same tailored structure. High-waisted and fitted through the hips, they fell into a straight, slightly relaxed leg. With the blazer already detailed, the clean bottom made the look feel soft.

She opted for minimal jewellery, which allowed the crystal work to act as the primary accessory. Her earrings were delicate. She wore a Saint Laurent Amalia slingback pump. The pointed-toe structure of the heel gave off a sophisticated and classic look.
